VOC’s , and their importance

VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compound.

Imagine VOCs as tiny, sneaky molecules that love to escape from things like paints, markers, and even your favorite scented candles! They’re like invisible ninjas that jump into the air and play hide-and-seek with our noses. Sometimes, we can smell them as that “new paint” or “freshly cleaned” scent.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting: while they may seem harmless because we can’t see them, too many VOCs can cause trouble. They can make the air inside our homes a bit yucky to breathe, giving some people headaches or making their noses feel funny.

But don’t worry! We can outsmart these sneaky molecules. By using eco-friendly products and letting in fresh air from outside, we can keep our air clean and our noses happy. So next time you’re painting a picture or helping clean up, remember to keep an eye out for those tricky VOCs!

Regulations :

By USEPA regulation, VOC emissions are defined as organic compounds which participate in atmospheric photochemical reactions.  The definition of VOCs is found in 40 CFR 51.100(s).  The definition includes a list of chemicals not defined as VOCs.  Two organic compounds that are not classified as VOC are methane and ethane.
